That's a very good question, and one I can't answer accurately. I'll have to refer you to Spectorbass.com, although I'm sure a TB'er would love to take a stab at it, but,,,

Oh my goodness...how's that ebony fretboard sound compared to non-ebony Spectors?

Much more tone, (Hardness of the wood), a brighter yet warmer sound.Slicker and faster as well...
Much harder (Tolerates wear way better)
Darker vs.Rosewood. Really makes the inlays "Pop"!
Only maintenance, Lemon oil, just like Rosewood, Ebony will get a bit more "Thirsty", especially in arrid climates.

If Inad the cash, that bass would be GONE! WOW ;-)

I am the original owner of this bass and it is a superb specimen of Woodstock craftsmanship. I should add that the neck has the "thin neck spec". This was my first USA build and was very hard to let it go. I am even about to receive another NS-5XL with walnut stain and ebony board. GLWTS Nightman.

No prob M8! I had an NS5 Buckeye Burl a few years ago, surgery forced me to sell it.
Wish I never had! The old Spector "Technical Info Guy" Michael Vernon from their old website is a good friend to have on FB.
He kinda tought me the difference in Rosewood & Ebony. He was my tech when I played for Shania Twain.

No doubt, I may regret I sold this one, if it sells, but the weight is more than I should be wearing while playing at my age. I lost my sit down Sunday service playing gig.

I've had questions about the weight of this bass, so I have pictures below to hopefully help you with an answer. I used a 10 lb weight to help compare where it registers on the two scales (fish and bathroom) and where the bass registers on the same two scales.
