I recently acquired this, and upon agreeing to the deal a couple of weeks ago, I started to do some research and reached directly out to the great Howard Ulyate for some help. He referred me directly Christian Celinder.
After speaking with Christian, I was able to confirm that this is one of only 5 total PJ5 basses he ever made, and was the only one in Daphne blue. You’ll find this color in his J’s, but not the PJ. This one is it. Super rare.
He was actually really happy to know this bass has been cared for. Really nice guy.
I also confirmed with a Christian the origins of this bass. And, this bass was originally made for Eric Wilson of Sublime. If you google him right now, you’ll see him playing one of 4 Celinder’s he regularly uses. They’re his main basses. And I now know why.
Anyway, I just got this, and it is absolutely stunning, not only visually, but also, from a playability, build and tonal standpoint. I am absolutely blown away by how good this bass is. When I say mint, I truly mean mint. It’s in pristine condition. And, considering this is nearing 15 years old.
That said, I have a chance to acquire an extremely rare Ken Smith from a local friend, and something has to go, so, it’s this one. Considering it’s new to me, I’ve not fallen completely in love yet. But, there’s still time I suppose. Lol!
The pickups deliver a tone that’s pretty much everything you’d want. Massive range. Beautiful voice. Classic to modern tones can be easily dialed in. It’s fantastic.
I will entertain trades, but, would rather sale. I’ve also got this priced pretty aggressively, considering this is what it is. I’m not sure the last owner realized it, honestly.
Anyway specs are:
Alder Body
Pau Ferro fingerboard - very light
Celinder CP2 preamp
Celinder PJ pickups - wound to artist spec.
Quilted maple neck
19mm spacing
Cream pickguard and secondary slate pearl as well
10lbs
Celinder ProTec case
Fresh set up and oil with Dean Markley Blue Steel nickels.
Buyer pays shipping. I am open to potential trades, but again, would prefer a cash sale.
This is a wonderful bass. Feels tremendous and sounds better than it looks. I can’t promise this will stay here. The more I play it, the more I like it!
Let me know if there are any questions.
