Sorry for the late response. Been a little under the weather here lately. The MXR is cleaner, I think, and doesn't color the tone at all. The Aguilar is definitely a great compressor, but it does add a little "something" to the tone. To my ear it's more of an upper midrange sparkle, but that's me running it through my TH500 from a Warwick $$ 5er. I never really tried it on my passive basses or running direct. I like the MXR better for just a simple Comp or limiter, but the Aguilar has a little more of an added bonus tonally even though I don't think it reacts as fast as the MXR. If any of that makes sense.
