This is the finest Shen you will ever play. It is a 3/4, bordering on 7/8, body Gemunder model. The string length is 41.5. A key feature to note here is that this bass was made before they starting mass producing all Shens made with willow wood. This is spruce and maple, which produces a far superior tone quality than the Shens produced today. You can tell that this is a pre-mass production Shen because it actually lacks the Shen stamp on the back and the Shen label inside.
This bass has a large body, which enables its massive tone. However, its sloping gamba shoulders make it very easy to get around. The tone quality is open, rich and even - and the bass reacts very well (i.e. you barely have to apply weight to get the string to speak).
This bass has been used very successfully for Jazz, and has won more than one major professional job (cant say which out of respect for previous owner's privacy). I personally have used it to get into undergrad and gradschool, as well as many summer festivals and regional orchestras. This bass will get you there.
