For sale is a circa-1978 Fender Precision Fretless with a Natural finish and rosewood fingerboard. I bought this bass in 1993 in Houston, it was my first fretless bass, and I kept it in its case through the 90’s and 2000’s. I started playing fretless seriously at the end of the 2000’s, but preferred Jazz basses and this sat in the case since. It’s a true closet queen, as you can see from the pictures, it’s in amazing condition for a 41-year old bass, no significant scratches or big dings, no fingerboard wear, no corrosion. Everything works and it is all original. The serial number on the neck dates it to 1978, and the pot codes are the 15th week of 1978. The serial number under the pickguard matches the serial number on the neck. I can’t read the date on the neck, maybe someone else can from the pictures, but everything else matches.

Weight on my kitchen scale is 9 pounds 15 ounces. Nut width is 1 3/4". Serial number S865922. It plays and sounds great. There’s some scratches on the pickguard, and a small nick on the back of the body, the neck is pristine in the playing area. I believe all the hardware is original, including the original hard-shell case, which is in very good shape, all latches and hinges are in good shape. It includes the bridge cover, but missing the pickup cover.

Bass ships strung with relatively new Sadowsky Black flat wounds. I will ship it the original hard-shell case. It will be wrapped in bubble wrap and packed in a new cardboard box.

I'm asking $2,000 $1,900 $1,800, PayPal is fine, contact me for other payment methods. Free delivery anywhere in the Houston area. Will ship to continental US FREE or to Alaska/Hawaii for actual shipping. No International shipping due to CITES restrictions, sorry.

This bass has sentimental value to me but doesn’t get played, and it deserves to have someone who will appreciate this great bass. I’ve been asked to reduce my stable to a “normal” number of basses, so no trades, sorry.

Feel free to ask questions in the comments or PM me directly. This bass has also been listed on Reverb here: Fender Precision Bass Fretless 1978 Natural if you want to "buy it now" but without the free shipping.

Dude - that is one heck of a fretless. Had one similar in the time, wish I never sold it.

But this picture! Rufus's book, a CRM4 ( CRM5 owner here ), what looks to be a nice carved DB,
and just enough of a tease of some nice-looking semi/hollowbody hiding on the right - Looks like my place! Unfortunately it DOES look like my place, so I can't do what someone else should do immediately after reading this - Buy this bass! :)

Lol... Yeah I’ve got a Jazz bass that I’m thinking of selling but I imagine this bass will be long gone by the time I sell it.

And in an amazing twist, this bass went back to its previous owner after more than 25 years.
