2000 Ernie Ball MusicMan StingRay5 H
99.5% new condition - has been out of the case about 2 to 3 hours.

Bought new for an audition to tour with this band, because almost every song required a low D:
♫ State of Being - Lori Fogler. Listen @cdbaby

I didn't get the gig, and so the bass has sat in the case untouched since that audition.
I was so disappointed that I didn't get the gig, and I had irrationally associated my failure on the audition with the bass itself and didn't want to look at the bass.

So this bass is the definition of a "closet queen"! 19 years of climate-controlled loneliness sitting inside the case dying to come out.

The price was $1,879 back in 2000, which was a LOT of money for a starving artist, I can tell you that for sure!

I just took off the 19 year old factory strings and put on a fresh set of Ernie Ball Super Slinkys (the factory standard strings), and this bass kills!!

Like all my basses, the action is nice and low, SUPER easy to play, with no buzzing anywhere up and down the neck.

For the audition, I went shopping specifically for a StingRay5. I trudged ALL OVER NYC in the dead of winter going to every single shop that had at least one of them in stock.
I ended up playing 14 of them altogether, and there were a lot of other ones that I preferred strongly over this one from a purely cosmetic perspective.
But for the tone, sustain, playability, and feel, this specimen was HEAD AND SHOULDERS above all of the others. It is just a great piece (pieces?) of wood, and it sounded better and played MUCH better than all of the other SR5's available in NYC at the time.

So, despite not loving the color scheme at all, I had to buy it anyway, because I wanted the best tool I could possibly have to try and get that gig.

Now that I have mellowed a bit in the intervening 19 years, I am finding the purple to actually be pretty awesome looking!

The specs are:

Pearl Purple with matching Pearl Purple headstock
White humbucker pickup
White Pearloid Pickguard
Chrome hardware
3-band preamp
3-way pickup selector switch
Weight: 10 lbs. 10 oz.
Nut width: 1.75"
Rectangular Hardshell Case also in mint, closet queen condition

Cosmetic flaws:

-One almost invisible hairline scratch on the back about 1" long, just barely into the clearcoat. It is visible when the light is hitting it at exactly the correct angle. It was there when I bought the bass, and the dealer refused to give me any discount for it because they said it was too hard to see and too minor for anyone to care about. (See photos #18 and #19.)

-One virtually microscopic ding (see photo #20) on the edge of the headstock opposite the tuners. I lightly contacted a music stand at the audition. (I still remember how my heart sank and I was afraid to even look to see if there was any damage. I had just spent well more than my current total net worth on this thing just a few days earlier.)

$1,550 Shipped FedEx fully insured to CONUS

Sorry, no trades unless you have a Skjold or a LeFay you are willing to part with.

I will happily guarantee that you will find this bass to be in exactly the condition as described and you will be completely delighted with it, or I'll offer a full refund within 10 days if I receive it back in the same condition.

Showed my wife (who’s also a player) and she said she wouldn’t have killed me. Purple happens to be her favorite color too. Dang it!!!

As a consolation prize, you can buy this one instead!
I also have it available for sale, and it is brand-spanking-new. It even has two more strings, for 50% more musical pleasure:

While it is pretty, I miss the old Petrucci’s. The Majesty looks awkward to me.
Not a problem! I have two of those available for you as well, in the amazing green to purple Mystic Dream finish! The seven string has the piezo pickup, the six string does not. Both are as new.
