Details

For sale is a Warwick Streamer Stage I 4-string bass in excellent++ condition. Made in 2014 by the “Custom Shop” in Markneukirchen, Germany, this bass differs from your average Streamer Stage I in a few ways: the finish, the quality of flamed Maple, and the Wenge neck.

DSC_0751.JPG

First of all, it has what Warwick calls a “Turquoise Stain High Polish.” Nearly all Warwicks have an oil or satin finish, but this bass has the extra protection and sheen you only get from a gloss finish. Applying such a finish doubles the production time and adds to the final cost, but is key to highlighting another special feature of the bass: some of the most spectacular flamed Maple you will ever see! There is a lot of flamed Maple out there—some of it mediocre, some of it good looking—but this flitch-matched body is a crème de la crème set. Tight curls and perfectly even spacing across the entire body endow this bass with exceptional chatoyant depth that really pops under the gloss finish. As the angle from which you view the instrument changes, the flames shift from dark to light streaks in a dynamic 3D effect.

The body shape itself is German engineering at its best. Wonderfully balanced, it has a contoured back (see pictures) that feels far more comfortable against my torso than any traditional Fender-style build. Warwick continues the attention to detail on the top, too: both horns and both bouts have a concave scoop which not only adds to the overall contours, but creates a nice recess for the control knobs. I also love the way the end of the fretboard doesn’t abruptly terminate after the 24th fret, but slopes into the body. The result is a very elegant and appealing aesthetic.

Ergonomics aside, the color use of color is also well executed: the turquoise body harmoniously complements the rich browns of the Wenge fingerboard and 5-piece Wenge neck (another custom upgrade: the Streamer Stage I traditionally has a Maple neck). Wenge, of course, is the wood behind that signature Warwick growl and here the Maple body brightens its tonal qualities into a fundamental timbre that cuts nicely through a mix. The side of the neck has glow-in-the-dark position dots which I’ve found most helpful when playing in low lighting.

The pickups are active MEC P/J with active 9v MEC 3-band electronics. The control knobs enhance the tonal flexibility P/J basses are known for: you have a pickup Balance/Volume (with stacked active/passive abilities!!) plus Treble, Mid, Bass. You can hear the Streamer Stage I (with this pickup configuration) being demoed here, here, and here--all with the normal Maple neck, I'm afraid, but it's not hard to find examples of Wenge necks in other Warwick models.

A recent review of this model can be read here.

I have taken extremely good care of this bass, as I do all my instruments. It’s never been gigged, but I have played it at church. I’m fastidious about wiping it down after every practice or performance. There is no button/buckle rash. There are no scratches or dings. All that keeps it from being "mint" is one negligible micro-impression on front of the bass-side bout that was present when I received the instrument (see image with penny for scale--as the other pictures demonstrate, this mark is impossible to see unless the light is just right). The neck is straight. The action is currently set up nice and low for fast fingerstyle play, but Warwick’s highly customizable bridge and nut design will allow you to dial in whatever action and spacing you prefer.

Includes the original Warwick user kit with trussrod tool, manual, and certificate of authenticity. Also includes straplocks and the original Warwick flight case (not quite as good condition as the bass, but it's still in good shape) which is so protective it could probably save your bass from being run over by a bus. Or tank.

This bass lists for $9,299.99 and retails for €6,269.00 (~$6,800.00).
*The MSRP (list) is from 2019 (I can't find the 2020 price; seems Warwick hasn't published it yet), but the MAP (retail) is from 2020.

$$$$ (including PP fees & shipping).

I’ll consider trades for a 4-string Marleaux Consat, Elrick Platinum eVolution, or similar bespoke build. Must be neck-through and at least 34" scale. Cash can go either direction to even things out.

This has got to be one of THE most informative, well written, and most eloquent for sale ads in the history of history! I think you may have answered almost every potential question, other than who wound the pickups and what they had for lunch that day. LOL! I hope this sells soon for you!

Thank you!
I was unable to get the name of the employee who wound the pickups, but I have it on good authority that lunch that day was Schweinshaxe followed by Käsekuchen.

For sure. I haven't played every Warwick model, but I have played a lot of them and the Streamer body has the more comfortable ergonomics. Great balance, and I really like the contoured back. What finish/color is yours?
