First and foremost, I love this bass. It was something I built up to exactly what I wanted and it's absolutely amazing.
Here's what's involved in the build:
- Custom made swamp ash body, fully shielded, finished in urethane (thin and protective)
- Status Graphite neck, with truss rod, phenolic board, stainless frets. This is a $600 neck by itself.
- Actual Ernie Ball Musicman bridge, tuners, neck plate, and 2 band active preamp
- Nordstrand MM 4.2 pickup, can be wired series or parallel, currently series for increased mids and output level.
The intended final product in my mind was the classic Stingray sound and feel, with the unflappable graphite neck so it stays in tune, no matter what. That is the end result. This bass is amazing. It shows a little wear, but is in fantastic shape. The pickguard isn't attached with screws and there are no holes for it. But it can be taped on or if you want, screwed in.
I built the body from scratch myself. It was an early product of my building development, but woodwork is what I do now.
If you love the Stingray sound and want a sturdy neck, with added graphite clarity, but don't want to pay upwards of $2k for a Cutlass or a custom build like this, here's a chance to get one cheaper by a lot!
