1/19/2020 — I am now switching this to For Sale/Trade. Also after playing and cleaning the bass recently I did notice that the tort pickguard is pretty scratched up. This was not the original pickguard with it. But this is an OEM pickguard and the original (white) will come with it.

Price is $2900 shipped CONUS only
PayPal accepted.

1/14/2020 -- This IS STILL AVAILABLE as local deal fell through!

Happy New Year!!

First off, this bass is awesome! It is in great shape without any major dings, scratches (except on tort guard) or chips.

I have no problem holding onto it because it is the nicest jazz I’ve ever had (by a mile)!

I traded my Fender Postmodern PBass for this and I really miss the PM.

My first trade option would be for a Fender Cs Postmodern P bass. I’m not picky on the color.

Also feel free to shoot me other trade offers but I am primarily looking for an even trade (or possibly with some cash coming to me. And also primarily looking for P Bass options and four strong passive.

Trade value on this is about $3k. If you want to hit me with a cash offer , go ahead and PM me and we can discuss price but I am really looking for a trade.

So here are the specs on the 66. By the way these are getting really hard to find. Particularly in this awesome color.

The bass comes with the full CS case and Kit including neck and bridge covers.

It is in Firemist Gold and a natural headstock.

It features a dotted and bound neck (a rare combo) That is dark rosewood. And it has the period correct cool lollipop tuners.

The bass is in great shape and sets up nice and low with TI flats on it right now.

I have some pics with a genuine fender tort guard and others with the white guard that came on it (these were from the last owner). You will get both in the deal.

The bass weighs in at about 8.5 pounds without covers.

I think that’s about it so feel free to hit me up with any offer or questions via PM.

Thanks.

Looks great with the covers. Looks cool without. Good luck, it won’t last long.

All PMs have been responded to.

here is some more info on the bass from the Sweetwater site when they used to be available.

You'll love the Fender Custom Shop 1966 Closet Classic Jazz Bass 4-string bass guitar for its old-school feel and vintage vibe - we do! This bass has been meticulously made to vintage specs to give you a true 1966 Jazz Bass experience. From the '60s U neck shape to the 9.5" fingerboard radius to the vintage hardware, this bass will please even the most discriminating bass enthusiast. You get all the classic thump and growl associated with the J-bass from a pair of Custom Shop pickups. Grab a piece of the past with the Fender Custom Shop 1966 Closet Classic Jazz Bass 5-string bass guitar.

Fender Custom Shop 1966 Closet Classic Jazz Bass 4-string Bass Guitar at a Glance:
  • Lightweight, "offset waist" alder body
  • Quartersawn neck for stability
  • Dual, single-coil Jazz Bass pickups in a shielded body cavity
Lightweight, "offset waist" alder body
Bass guitars are big and that can mean heavy, too. So the Fender Custom Shop 1966 Closet Classic Jazz Bass 5-string bass guitar comes with the distinctive "offset waist" body design, but made from alder, which is resonant, but relatively light, which you'll appreciate after two or three hours up on stage.

Quartersawn neck for stability
The neck is one of the most important aspects of any instrument, and the Fender Custom Shop 1966 Closet Classic Jazz Bass 4-string bass guitar features a quartersawn maple neck. Besides looking good, the straight grain of quartersawn necks is about 50% stronger than plain-sawn necks, and less likely to warp, twist or shrink. You'll love the playability and feel of the 1966 Closet Classic Jazz Bass's rosewood fretboard with a vintage 9.5" radius and a '60s "U" neck shape.

Dual, single-coil Jazz Bass pickups in a shielded body cavity
Fender's early electric basses had just one pickup. So naturally, if one was good, two was even better. The Fender Custom Shop 1966 Closet Classic Jazz Bass 4-string bass guitar gives you two vintage-style single-coil Jazz Bass pickups in a shielded body cavity for quieter operation, both on stage and in the studio. You'll get all the low-end thump and growl you expect from a 1966 Jazz Bass. Vintage-style stacked concentric control knobs give you control over volume and tone for each pickup.

Fender Custom Shop 1966 Closet Classic Jazz Bass 4-string Bass Guitar Features:
  • Precise reissue of an iconic American bass
  • Color: Olympic White
  • Quartersawn maple neck for stability and long life
  • Vintage oval paddle-style tuners look good and are ultra-stable
  • 1960's U shape neck with 9.5" fretboard radius for excellent playability

I thought it was gold by the first few pics. Now I indifferent see white in the later pics but it’s dark.

it’s definitely got a unique gold color. It does look a little lighter paired with the white guard vs. the tort.

Have had a lot of interest and questions about trades. So I figured I would update my trade interests.

my #1 trade interest is for a custom shop postmodern p bass. Don’t really care about color.

beyond that I would give preference to other CS four string, fretted p basses. I prefer an A neck but don’t mind other sizes as long as they are thinner front to back.

I might consider a trade for a solid Pbass with cash to me.

if you’ve got something you might be interested in trading just shoot me a PM. The worst you will get is a polite. no thanks.

thanks everyone.

Just took this jazz to a jam and a buddy’s this morning and I’m getting separation anxiety. It is without a doubt the nicest jazz I’ve ever played. So I think I’m going to hang on to it for now. Thanks to everyone again for the kind offers.
I’ll never say never so this might make its way here again but I don’t need to explain how GAS works to all of you.
