Upgraded without blend control pot? For me who using the vol pot, it's a serious downgrade, but everyone has own preferences.

I’m my experience with jazz Basses, they sound better with vol/vol configuration. The NYC Sadowsky shop did the work and compared various pots

Is this ash body? When did NYC shop do this work? Original HC pickups available? Do you know if the single coils will hum cancel when blended using the volume/volume arrangement? Thanks...

Ash body. Work done by sadowsky nyc in June 2019. Hum canceling pickups not included. This bass has NYC single coils. There is no buzz with both pickups centered, however depending on the environment you’re in they will buzz a bit when one pickup is favored - like all true single coil pickups. This has nothing to do with the vol/vol arrangement

If the blend feature is removed there is no centering of the pickups, correct? So, matching the volumes accomplishes the same purpose, correct? I'm assuming that the phase or polarity of the single coils is wired so that hum cancelling occurs with both pickups matched in output? Thank you for the clarification and I apologize if I am not understanding the bass modified set-up.

"Centering of the pickups" is a relative term. Correct - there is no buzz/hum when the volume of the pickups is matched. With or without a blend knob, all true single coil pickups will hum when one is favored. Sadowsky offers both vol/vol wiring and master volume/blend as options. It's simply my feeling after years of experimenting that a vol/vol wiring offers better tone than a blend pot - so I had it swapped out. It's an easy and inexpensive thing to have reversed if thats your preference.

Additionally, I should note that Sadowsky tested several VTC pots (otherwise known as passive tone) on this bass and selected the one with the largest range of use.
