Re-listing as I sold to a local TB’r who had numbness and headaches and thought this lightweight bass would help. For him, it turns out to be the reach of a 34” vs 30” scale bass. So, I took it back as it seemed the right thing to do.

So,...Weighing in at an incredibly light 6 lbs is a Roscoe Century Standard. I bought it used in 2009 or 2010 at The Bass Emporium in Austin, Texas. Specifics are:

- Made in Greensboro, North Carolina, USA by Keith Roscoe
- Bartolini Soap Bar Pickups
- Bartolini NTMB-918F 3 band 18v circuit with switchable mid range frequencies in addition to bass and treble boost. Requires two 9V batteries. See link for more details
https://bartolini.net/wp-content/uploads/Docs/Electronics/EQs/ArchiveEQs/NTMB-918F.pdf
- Super lightweight swamp ash body
- Pau Ferro fretboard
- 3 piece quarter sawn Maple neck with graphite reinforcement, tilt-back headstock (no string tree needed to create proper downward tension at the nut).
- 34” scale
- 1.5” nut width
- 19mm bridge spacing
- Roscoe Gig Bag

It’s solid and plays great. There are some blemishes from normal use which I’ve tried to capture in the photos. Regrettably, there is some belt buckle rash on the back.

Current price on new Roscoe Standards is $2625. I’m asking $1100+ $75 shipping within the Continental US. Thanks for looking.

Hey there, TB family! I had the great pleasure of working with @vanderbe and taking this beautiful bass home with me for full-on test drive. I had intended to keep it, as it is beyond compare, fantastic player, and incredible sound! It packs a punch beyond its (actual) weight.

Alas, as it seems to go, my health issues revolve around a neck/shoulder injury and the older I get, the issue keeps me from enjoying even the lightest of 34” scale basses. (Bummer, it’s the reach).

Have the utmost confidence in this bass and the seller. Not only a great TB’er, but a gem of a human being, to boot! A real gentleman and a scholar.

No thanks. This is one of three basses I have up for sale to “thin the herd”. Trade wise, I’d only be interested in something very specific...a NYC Sadowsky lined fretless with an ebony fretboard.

If you’re not familiar with Roscoe, you’re in for a treat. Keith Roscoe makes all instruments in the USA in North Carolina. One of my favorite bassists, Jimmy Haslip of Yellowjackets fame, plays Roscoe. Check out Roscoe Basses here:
Roscoe Guitars

Pulling up on the midrange knob puts the bass in active mode.

Here’s a 10 year old clip of me (the old guy) playing some jazz. We were all just learning to play jazz then, but the tone of this Roscoe really cuts through the mix.

Here’s a demo clip of another Roscoe Century Standard with various settings:

I bought this bass at the wonderful Bass Emporium in Austin, Texas which sadly is closed now. I was buying another bass when I heard a salesman telling a customer that “this Roscoe only weighs 6 pounds”. Being a lover of light basses, I tried it out and couldn’t leave the store without it.

You’re welcome to PM me and we can setup a phone conversation if you like and literally “talk bass”.
