Since this is an ash body with a maple fret board, does it gravitate toward a "brighter" tone vs a deeper warmer tone range? Also, what effect do the titanium inserts have on the tone?

I would say brighter with a very aggressive mid range. The inserts makes the bass more articulate if you ask me. However I would have to yield to more seasoned bass players using the MTD brand. I will say fellow musicians will know when you are playing a MTD similar to how I can hear (w/o looking) a bass player using a Ken Smith.
