String bass for sale (formerly owned by Dave Holland)
German 3/4 size string bass made by E. Reinhold Schimdt, circa 1920. Owned and professionally maintained by Mike Rivard (1996-2020) and used on many recordings. Previously owned by Dave Holland, and notably is the instrument used on his solo bass album "Ones All". Excellent instrument with lovely sound for both jazz and classical. Ones All recording
The top plate is made of two pieces of book matched, quarter-sawn, straight grained spruce and is cut with gamba corners. The edges of the top and back are slightly raised. The purfling is narrow and made of three pieces. The bass bar of the top is original and is made of spruce. Deep chestnut varnish with antiquing typical of Saxon
violinmakers.
Round back, consisting of two pieces of nicely flamed, book matched maple. The ribs are made of maple. All of the interior blocks and linings are made of spruce. The neck is original and made of maple with an ebony fingerboard. Both back and top plates have a defined recurve towards the narrower perfling.

Upper bout width: 20.125 in; C bout width: 14.75 in; Lower bout width: 25.875 in; Depth of rib, lower bout: 7.5in; Depth of rib, upper bout: 7.4 in; Mensure: 42.1 in (106.9 cm)
Equipped with Evah Pirazzi strings, Fishman 360 pickup, and comes with Moradian gig bag. Can be seen and played at Upton Bass Shop.
