Fender Mustang Bass custom build/restoration. This is truly a stunning instrument using the popular, old-school Fender contoured body combined with modern SD pickups that really pack a punch; plus a fabulous, custom made, solid, brushed brass pick guard AND control plate. The satin nitrocellulose body refinish has a few, very minor flaws that you have to look closely to find. It basically has a light shopworn appearance that goes well with the JMJ neck and hardware. All parts are brand new except for the body, which has been refinished. You will absolutely love this one-of-a-kind custom bass! Additional, detailed pics available upon request. This is so cool. I’m considering something similar. Did you have to sand the bass body or neck to make it fit the pocket? I’ve read the vintage necks were 57 mm wide while the JMJ is closer to 58 mm. What was your experience with this?

the vintage necks are a bit narrower at the heel, ive mounted my 78 neck to a JMJ body and PJ mustang and am performer and there was a slight gap on the edges on all.

Since my post I bought a 1970 vintage mustang body. Found that the neck pocket was tiny compared to the modern necks. Both JMJ and Squier. I then purchased a 1975 musicmaster neck that fits like a glove. The 1970 neck cavity is 56 mm at the widest and 54 mm at the narrowest part of the taper. So it would seem unless you want to sand a vintage neck pocket out, or sand a modern neck down by 2 mm, it’s better to put vintage with vintage. If this particular bass body in the ad is from the later 70s, it may have involved less sanding. I do believe the neck pockets got slightly larger around 1976. I have not tested this first hand however.
