A longer upper horn to balance the bass. It was one of the first fenders to have a 22 fret neck. It's a nice bass, priced very fairly.

I believe this was the first Fender bass with a 22 fret neck. To maintain balance, George Blanda -the lead designer at Fender in the late 80s- had to extend the upper horn, thus creating a new nickname for this version.
As reference, in Fender basses, the upper horn reaches roughly to the 12 fret.

I bought one of these new in 91- pic in my avatar. They are great. Some don't like the lace pickups, but you have both options here. Bargain for a 22 fret USA made Fender. GLWTS!

The story about the longhorn/boner bass thing is correct. Body shape has a longer horn and a slightly higher cut away when you back to back a plain precision

Good luck with sale! My first bass was a new 89 boner and I still have it. I stopped digging the lace pickups so it sat for years. Added passive barts and now it is my main gigging bass.

It's a great bass! Sounds fantastic with passive PUs. It's so punchy with all that maple.

Do you know the build date? I absolutely don't need another P Bass, but if I were to learn that a birthday bass was also a "boner" bass, I'd consider it just for the laugh. If not, no need to check just for me.

I don't, sorry. That would be undeniably cool though.

This is a great instrument, Scottybass14. I've owned my Boner bass since 1991--bought it used for $453-- and have played it ever since. It is my main gigging bass and even toured with it for a short stint in the early 90's. The high mass bridge is nearly impossible to find anymore and, in my opinion, is one of the small features that add up to make this a fine instrument. The three way selector switch provides you the option of getting the juicy growl of the original p-bass or the funky snap of the single coil. Leave it in the middle and you get the chocolate smooth sound of both pickups (my favorite place to play). There's an added bright switch that adds a little extra punch, but frankly, I never turn it off. These rarely come up for sale on Reverb and when they do they usually go for over $1100, American. $900 Canadian is a good price IMO.
