1975 (or thereabout) Gibson Ripper bass. Road worn (see photos) and needs some adjustment but other than that, it's the real deal/diamond in the rough. All original except pickguard and bridge (Mighty Mite replacements) - the pickguard was missing a chunk and the bridge was missing a saddle so I just replaced them. I don't know where the originals are, as I'm in the middle of breaking down and moving my studio (that's also why I'm selling the bass). Everything works but probably needs a thorough cleaning and going through. Truss rod is good and works/turns in both directions. Low E string buzzes on third fret - I just don't have time to do the work at this time. No case.

Man - back in early 80s I had a Ripper and a Grabber. I think the Ripper cost $350 and the Grabber $300. Sold the Ripper as I preferred the Grabber's neck. Hard to imagine either fetching $1600! GLWTS!

(Guess I'd better get around to getting my Grabber back from my kid! She ASSURES me she still has it! ;))

^^^ I'm selling not buying - appreciate the offer though ;) Perhaps a buyer will make us both happy.

"I think the Ripper cost $350"... Yeah, well "the '80's was 40 years ago:thumbsup: these things regularly fetch $2000 - $3500 depending on condition... :bassist:

They don't actually sell for anything near that, but that's what they're listed on eBay for by Japanese sellers. You're pretty close to going rate.

Doubtful based on my experience. Between $900 and $1500 depending on condition is far more realistic. At least in the US. Much as I like Rippers (it’s been my main bass since 1974 and I currently own two of them) I couldn’t see paying $2000 let alone $3500 for one.

Just my 2¢ anyway.

For all of you who claim to be in the know about what the CURRENT market value for Rippers should be, check Reverb .... Gibson Bass Guitars | Reverb

Back in 2015, 2016, 2017 You could buy a good used Ripper for $1,500 'ish, and those days are gone OR maybe it's just a seller's market right now but as of the summer of 2021, you'd be hard-pressed to find a clean, original Ripper, with OHSC for anywhere near $1,500 .... Trust me on this, I'm a chronic window shopper / buyer.

OP, I just sent you a PM ... If you're in the NY Metro area, so am I
