This is a Fender Aerodyne P/J bass, made in Japan for the Japanese market. Unlike the less-expensive models destined for export to the USA, the non-export models have pickguards and a normal right-angle jack. "Made in Japan" and "Crafted in Japan" Fender pieces are known for their quality.
This one was purchased online from a nice guy who clearly stated it probably needed a setup. I want low action, so took it in only to learn the neck is "twisted" and it's already the best it's gonna get. Necks can twist -- who knew? Ah, well, live and learn...
So, a good deal if you don't need a low action, or you're handy and looking for parts to customize to your liking. It's been played so has a few swirls and tiny dents, etc. but otherwise is in pretty good shape. The worst ding is on the neck -- see pictures. My fingers never go there, so I don't notice it.
Weighs 8.8 pounds using the bathroom scale method. Comes with the Fender gig bag and Fender strap in the pictures. $550 and you pay Fedex shipping CONUS.
Not much I'd want to trade for. I'm open to player-grade instruments with passive electronics but I'm only interested in rosewood fingerboards and Jazz-width necks (i.e. 1.5-inch nuts). That said, possible trades (with money your way):
- Fender Precision with an A-neck (i.e. Jazz neck)
- G&L LB-100 with a Jazz neck
- G&L SB-2(T) with a Jazz neck
- Nash P-bass with a Jazz neck
- Fender 64 AVRI Jazz in Lake Placid Blue
