Details

Up for grabs is my 5 string MTD Grendel. It is in very good condition for a bass this age, with normal wear you'd expect. I am not the original owner. I picked it up here a few months ago. It is a great playing and sounding bass that holds its own. I just have a preference for 34 inch scale basses. Price includes shipping/PayPal fees. This is a for sale only item, not interested in trades. Thanks for looking!

What is the control layout? I had two stock Grendels a while back and they both had V/B/Stacked BT with a 3-way mid switch..

Well by this write up it seems as if either MTD changed p/us and preamp OR they have been swapped by an owner ...cause it said they use a specially made p/u by Bartolini with EXPOSED POLES and then it says the pre amps they used have a 3 way switch for slap/flat/and modern maybe ..I forget the 3rd setting....lol....but no mid point select ......HUMMMMMMM .....looks and sounds like a sweet bass none the less and probably at a good price as well ...so GLWTS sir!!!!!!!!

Indeed, Mike did change the pickups later on to the classic hum-canceling type due to complaints over the single-coil hum inherent in that design. I had a two Grendels: one with exposed-poles and one with the humbuckers--I kept the latter, though the single-coils sounded great (just a bit noisy).

The frequency center for the 3-way switch, noted in the pic by @Halegroove, is "slap" (1kHz cut) - flat - "fingertone" (1kHz boost). So, this one for sale seems to have been "upgraded" to get it a bit closer to the a US Saratoga in terms of functionality.

Spot on! My Beast has the Bartolini Exposed poles and I can't hear any hum whatsoever when both volumes are equal... Typical single coil hum, no big deal.
