Scroll: grafted original workmanship has a remarkable carved lion’s head figure. 43” Eb Neck; new Evah Pirazzi strings and Marvin cable tail-piece; includes original wooden tail-piece. Adjustable bridge. Varnish is amber-brown color. It is healthy and is well set up.
From an examination documented by Hermann Bischoffberger (Seattle WA) in 1989: “In my opinion, made by the Saxon school around the 1900 period.” Fully carved with raised edges. Maple back, interrupted soft flames. Inlaid purfling figure on back below button. Top is Spruce, divisi med. wide grains.

From an examination documented while being set up by Robertson & Sons Violins (Albuquerque, NM) in 2007: Description: the two-piece maple back is marked by prominent medium width figure ascending from the center joint. The ribs, neck and scroll are of similar maple. The two-piece spruce top has narrow width grain in the center, widening to the flanks.
