UPDATE: I thought I had this one sold locally a while back, so this ad was changed to No Longer Available. The local sale fell through, so I’m just now getting around to re-listing.

Anyone who has ever played a G. Gould bass already knows how great they are. I got this one in 2018 from The Bass Place in AZ. It was Geoff’s NAMM display bass that year. Bass is in excellent condition; no scratches, dents or dings that I can find. I’ve since added blue FretFX LED markers as shown in pics (it’s an adhesive strip that’s easily removed if you don’t want them, won’t harm the bass at all to remove). Plays and sounds fantastic.

I’m fortunate to own two GGi5s, but have recently come to the realization that I really only need one these days, so I’ve decided to keep the other one and let this one go.

Here’s a couple shots I found online of Andy West playing this bass at the 2018 NAMM show.

How do these compare to Modulus Quantum basses? I’d assume they’re very similar considering their pedigree.

Is the string spacing 17mm at the bridge?

There are members here that own both that could answer that question much better than I can (it's been many years since I've owned a Q5), but from what I recall from owning one, the G. Gould neck is a bit thinner from front to back than the Modulus neck. I find the G. Gould neck more comfortable to play. And the spacing is 17mm, but that can be adjusted a bit if desired with the saddles on this ABM bridge.

I can answer that a little better. I have a GGi5 and I played a Q5 for years.

- The neck is noticeably thinner front to back, it is also slightly wider overall. The GGi5 feels like a shallow C, whereas the Q5 is more chunky and almost feels like a D.

- String spacing is also slightly different. Q5 is 17mm, GGi5 is 18mm-ish.

- GGi5 has a more satin-like finish to the back of the neck. Q5 (unless you have a very new model) is high gloss.

Neither one is better than the other, but I sold my Q5 to buy a GGi5. It just fits me better overall and I also prefer the electronics Geoff has been using.

GLWTS!

To be clear, I currently have this bass set up with 17mm spacing, although it definitely can go wider with the adjustable bridge.

Yep! That's where the 18mm-ish comes into play. I really wasn't able to dial my Q5 wider because of the neck width, but the GGi5 has both a wider neck and a different string spacing bridge than what is usually standard on a Q5.

Those LED side markers are great for those darken shows, you'd never get lost and very visible in light. How are they powered? Very nice bass!

Thanks! That’s exactly why I added the LEDs, to see on the darker stages, and they really make a difference. They’re powered by a standard CR-2032 battery. You can see it on the back of the headstock picture above. When not in use, you pull the battery out and put it back in reversed. To turn them on, flip the battery again. Very easy.

Is the LED strip something that is removable?

Yes, very easily. It’s just an adhesive strip. Once removed, it will be unusable again as removing will destroy it, but it leaves no marks or residue on the neck. I’ve removed one from another bass a while back, and you’d never know it was there. I’m sure others that have experience with the FretFX LEDs will attest to this.
