Hey Folks,

I have here a beautifully well built "late 90's early 2000" Carvin. I would call it an ICON but I believe this pre dates the ICONs based on the J99 pickups and the Wilkinson bridge...but the headstock puts it around 2006? Not too sure...this one is a bit of an enigma. Likely a custom build.

It has a Claro Walnut body, maple/walnut neck, Ebony fretboard and a 3 band Preamp EQ with the Piezo 18V in all. It also has an insane amount of eq adjustments inside the cavity...like a ridiculous amount...I have not toyed with these adjustments. It's extremely versatile with a multitude of tonality from Jaco to fat P Bass tones and Modern Ken Smith like timbre with sustain for days. Very punchy sound.

It's my first exposure to Carvin basses but I must say, It is a very well built bass with nice detailed finishes. The neck is pin straight, super low action with a fully functional truss- 35inch scale. Coming in at a healthy 9.5lbs. It's in excellent condition with a few minor scuffs, a few dings pictured and one of the control knobs is a little wonky.

Im looking to sell or trade it out for something different. I just didn't connect with this bass, although it met all my requirements except maybe the weight.

Trades I would consider, as always plus or minus cash is always on the table.

Thanks for looking! Peace!:D

That is an LB70, not an Icon. The "Icon" headstock was an option on all Carvin basses for a while, including in 2006, but that is an LB70. A beautiful one, at that! Good luck with the sale!

I believe the "Anniversary" series has the qurly maple top. My $0.02, I think this is the 2006 LB70WP. For reference: The Carvin Museum - 2006 Carvin Anniversary Series Bass Either way, what a beautiful bass. If I hadn't just bought a beautiful AAAA quilted maple Carvin LB70P from an awesome TB'er last month, I'd be buying this gem of an American made bass. I envy the lucky buyer.

Thanks for the great information guys. Im still a little perplexed at the identity of this bass. I spoke to a rep at Carvin and he stated he didn't believe they used that headstock on the LB70's. Im also pretty sure those pickups were replaced sometime in the early 2000's...But to be honest, you guys likely know a lot more than me on this one. Ive only done a little research on the Carvin website....which made me more confused. My discussion with Carvin was fleeting at best. Thank you all for the information!

Bump for a sweet bass and a great TB'er! And for sure great photo skills. Just did a trade with him and he captured the actual look of the bass perfectly. What you see is for sure what you'll get.

LB70WP would have been what carvin called it.

definitely 2005-2008ish, during that time carvin was getting wild with the walnut / piezo combo.

those extra controls in the cavity are for the piezo - each string gets an adjustment, plus your standard trim pots.

it's definitely not a 35" scale, they did not offer that. it's 34. of course, please measure to confirm... it's your bass not mine

they offered 35.25" as the "XB70" (or 75,76 based on string count) but those only had 22 frets.

either way, looks like a bangin bass!!

Yes LB70WP Is definitely the correct model number for this beauty. It appears the frets are nickel and NOT stainless? Do you know the difference and confirm or not sure? Can you specifically describe the “wonky” control knob issue and identify which one it is please?
