I bought this light-as-a-feather beauty in January 2018, seeking an upright-y tone for a cocktail jazz combo I had started, and it has served me very well--so well that last winter I made the leap and bought myself an entry-level (plywood) double bass. I'm finally getting the hang of playing the upright, and have decided to start raising funds for a more refined upright, and they are not cheap.

This bass has been a consistent head turner at gigs, both for its elegant beauty and its incredible voice: like an upright but with just enough more punch and definition to work well with the R&B and country we sneak in amongst the jazz standards. I've even used it for entire sets with the classic country band I play in.

The previous owner had larger fret dots installed at the fret lines (click on thumbnail pic below), a common modification for people who gig these, as the stock dots and the subdued maple fretlines can be hard to see on dark stages.

The bass has been gigged, both by me and the previous owner, and though it looks flawless from a few feet away, if you maneuver it around in the light, you can find indentations on the top from fingernails along the strings between the neck heel and bridge, on the back of the body, and there's an indentation on the headstock that, again, is hard to see from a few feet away, but if you swivel it around enough, you can find it.

In the lower cutaway, there is a section where a few inches of the binding is separated a tiny bit from the body (see the 9th photo). This was disclosed by the previous owner, and hasn't changed for me. I've heard of this happening in other Rob Allens, and doesn't affect playability, or even appearance unless you know it's there, and it has been a non-issue for me.

Since I'm raising money for an upright, I'm not interested in trades.

Note: In the last few pictures I have gone out of my way to use glare to reveal imperfections in their most unflattering light, which looks a hundred times worse than they do in person.

Please PM me with any questions concerns, offers, etc.
Thanks for looking!

Note: these next photos intentionally show the flaws in the MOST UNFLATTERING light. They are very hard to see looking straight on from two feet away.

Looks like all models are sold out on Rob's site:Rob Allen, but you can get a rough idea what what his basses sell for new.

I owned a similar MB-2 5-string fretless. It came to me with larger side dots. I will second that they are an essential upgrade if you are going to gig with the bass. On mine, the larger dots made it possible to quickly orient my location on the FB in various lighting environments. Flamed maple top and larger side dots--someone will be a happy camper...

Woke up to several PMs this morning--just answered the last one. At this point, the bass is still available.

That's a beautiful piece of flamed maple. From what I've heard, the binding issue you mention is, indeed, common with Rob Allens. Mine has the same thing. It is minor and has not gotten worse. Amazing basses and even with an upright I'm happy to have the Mb-2. Nothing else (that I've heard) sounds quite like it. Good luck with the sale (though you shouldn't need it)!

Yeah, there is definitely room in my playing life for both an MB-2 and an upright. One of the PMs this morning asked a question that required that I get it out and play it a bit, and 30 minutes passed very quickly. It plays so effortlessly, and the neck just feels like home. When I came upstairs my wife asked me if I was going to have seller's remorse, and my reply was, "I already do." But I've started this process and will stick to it. For now, at least:)

What a beauty !
The binding can be fixed for little money. A friend of mine (luthier) did it for me. It’s very well done ! Loosening the whole binding towards the end (towards the neck so the tension is gone (the cause of the tension is shrinking) and gluing it back in place. You will be missing just a millimeter (!) but the chance it will loosen more or again is a lot less.
Good luck with the sale !

Thank you Nels--I "liked" your post on Thursday after reading the first line from my phone, but am only now reading the rest. That's useful information. If I end up keeping it, I may do this at some point, but it's never bothered me, and in fact I had sort of forgotten about it until I started taking pictures for the classified.
