BEAUTIFUL excellent condition 4003s I bought brand new last August. It's a 2020 April build so it must have been sitting in a warehouse for a while. When received it looked like it was never played or displayed. Never left my bedroom [smoke free home], never even put a strap on it! No blemishes, scratches, dings or any noticeable cosmetic imperfections except what is noted below. Possibly a smaller production window that has V2 bridge, silver top knobs, and clear-coated fret board. At some point shortly after they changed to the vintage style knobs, then as we know stopped clear-coating the fret boards. The fret board has some really nice figuring too!
Bass currently wears its 2nd set of strings - brand new Curt Mangin in the stock size. Neck is almost laser straight, action is low, but you can easily adjust to your liking. OHSC included as well as unopened case candy as shown.
I absolutely love the look, and rounded edges of the "S" basses, but I have a 2017 4003, and I really don't need both. I decided to sell the nicer + less used one while its still in such great shape.
Mods:
I carefully removed the pickup cover to install a treble bezel, carefully removed the PG + TRC to install black ones, and carefully installed the toaster neck pickup. PG is Pickguardian, TRC is from elsewhere... All original parts are included as pictured. Its about $300 in upgrades.
Full disclosure:
I had a 500K pot harness laying around I thought I would try with the toaster. After I soldered it up, I realized the push/pull pot it came with was a bit too tall to fit, so I immediately went back to the original harness.
I like the neck almost perfectly straight, but when its that straight there is some "back buzz" on the E, A + D strings. I shimmed those strings where they sit in the nut with business card material, but never bothered having it fixed properly. I feel like it the slots were filed too low from the factory, unless they were worked on before the bass was shipped. **EDIT - new nut installed 4/25/2022, no shims needed.
I removed some material from the G string saddle to get it a bit lower. I read something about it and thought it would solve all my problems and bring new meaning and purpose to my life. Probably didn't need it but you know how it is.... Still has full range of adjustment, now it goes a bit lower.
There is a blemish that may have been touched up on the side of the fret board between the nut + 1st fret. It's almost perfectly smooth to the touch and looks much worse in the picture.
There is a blemish on the head-stock on the edge of the cresting wave that looks worse in the picture.
Sorry I don't have a way of accurately weighing it so I defer to official Rickenbacker specs of 9.0 lbs. ****Edit 5/21 Took it to a Guitar Center thinking they have some sorta nice hanging scale made for guitars, but apparently they didn't because he took it in back and weighed it on the shipping scale. I cant speak to the accuracy of the scale, but it came out to 9.2 lb.
I am located in Northeast PA, USA and am willing to drive a couple hours if you are. Cash deal in person works best for me. Paypal works especially if I am shipping. Buyer pays exact shipping + insurance to USA48 only please. If you are interested PM your info for a quote. No problem if you want to provide a shipping label.
