Story Time:
I bought an old (1890ish) "Tyrolean" bass at David Gage in Tribeca in 2005 (on consignment by Jon Burr, who I've never met, but would like to). During a recording session a year or two later I realized that the (probably original) tuners were rattling around. We found a lot of rubber bands and finished the recording. I then brought the bass back to Gage, where these Sloane machines were purchased and installed (in approximately 2007, I can't recall precisely, so they have been on the instrument for about 15 years). They have performed flawlessly. Fast forward, I've lived in Bend, OR (it's very dry here) for 7 years, the bass hasn't been worked on in a long time, and things are starting to go wrong, so...I've just had an extensive restoration completed by Doug Heydon. He felt that the tuners were too heavy for the bass and replaced them with some new Rubners (He also declared the bass a Mittenwald and back dated it an additional 40 years?). So I'm trying to recoup some funds from the restoration and hoping that a builder or player will find good use for these. They seemed quite popular for a time but are no longer available. Please feel free to ask any questions or point out what I've missed here.
While I am new to Talk Bass classifieds, I've been buying and selling bass and audio related things on ebay, reverb, and audiogon for a long time. Hoping to build some positive feedback here as well. Thank you.
