My guitarist friend is losing sleep because I’m selling this bass. He says these are amazing basses to record in the studio with amazingly consistent note volume. No dead spots.

This would be an amazing specimen as a 4 string. You're saying this 5 string was manufactured in 1981? That's gotta be one of only a handful. I didn't know they existed that early. Awesome bass and collection of accessories. GLWTS!

Regret selling it? It’s been a fantastic addition to my “wall of amazing basses”. But I hope it goes to someone who enjoys gigging or recording with it. It’s a fantastic bass with a complete set of accessories, that are really hard to find.

Actually we need someone to pick it up and enjoy it! Great sounding bass that is so playable and perfect for the small stage where a full sized bass bumps into things.

Back when you could buy a Fender Jazz for $400 brand new, the Steinberger L2 was about $1200. I think I paid $1400 for my first XL2 4 string in 1984. I traded that one for an Alembic a few years ago. This L25 is far rarer than the 4 strings.

I picked up an XL25 back in the fall of 2020. These are serious hen's teeth basses. It took me some 25 years to find mine. Yours looks like a beauty. This bass will make somebody very happy.

I agree. I picked it up after looking for years too. I was in the middle of having my XL2 restored, so I went ahead and had this one completely restored too. I can’t see this investment ever going down in value… so it’s just a matter of time to find someone who wants a great Steinberger in a 5 string. Sadly the newer, Asian made basses that share the Steinberger name have tainted the perception of these rare, original basses. Kind of like a Squier P vs a 57 P Bass… totally different animals.

I play my Brooklyn made L2, bought in 1981. last time I brought it on a gig Ned Steinberger was in the audience. Still great instruments.
