Hi all! This is my first time posting in a forum-like setting, so forgive my lack of etiquette or savvy. I read the rules, but politely let me know if I made a misstep along the way!
Now, on to the listing.
This is a 3/4, German double bass handcrafted by Björn Stoll in the likeness of a Matteo Guersam bass owned by Brian Bromberg (lotsa names, sorry ). It has a lovely build quality with rich wood, dark spirit varnish, and violin corners. Its string length measures 42”, the instrument itself stands at approximately 6’, and it’s higher and lower bouts measure at 19”/25” respectively. It was purchased in 2009 from Lemur Music, sold to me by the late Jerry Buffa (a wonderful guy), and has been loved, played, and cared for ever since.
I made something of a career with this instrument as it carried me through high school, college, and gigs thereafter. It’s lived through phil harmonics, symphonies, musicals, operas, jazz bands/trios, rock bands, and the odd contemporary performance. I only mention any of this because I LOVE this bass. It pains me to have to let it go, but I sustained a shoulder injury a couple years ago that prevents me from playing like I used to — so this listing is to make sure it goes to someone who will love it just like I have.
It services all types of play, from thumb position to walking bass lines — the tone and range this thing carries will cater to any of your musical needs.
I’ll be selling it with the following: an instrument stand, bow quiver, pick-up (albeit, not the nicest), hard-cover bow case, wheel, a Sunrise Pernambuco french bow (that has seen a LOT of love) and a plush Mooradian carrying case. The instrument is fitted with some Solo Belcanto strings, but those probably need to get changed out as it’s been a couple years.
As far as pricing is concerned, I’m open to offers. I listed the price as such because that’s around the number provided to me by its most recent appraisal (appraised at $15,000 as of July 15th, 2016). I’ve lowered the price to garner interest. My main concern is that the instrument finds a home to be played; however, I’m not comfortable going too low. Message me and we can chat if you’re interested!
Lastly, I’m happy to do some light traveling to meet for a sale. For example, I frequent Southern California often, so that would be most convenient if you’re not in Las Vegas!
