FOR SALE: 2018 FENDER CLASSIC 50’s PRECISION BASS - LACQUER FINISH

After giving this instrument a year I can definitively say that this neck shape doesn’t work for me. It's a beautiful bass, but I need an instrument that is a better fit for my left hand.

It's a MIM P-Bass, but I was quite impressed with the build quality. The classic series lacquer finish Precision basses were made by Fender for several years, but 2018 was the only year where they offered this model in the transparent / Mary Kay white.

This has all of the classic 50's P-Bass mystique, combined with a lacquer finish that will naturally wear with playing and time. I got a little bit of a head start with some strategic sanding of the back of the neck and it helped tremendously. It has that distinct P-Bass midrange that just announces it's presence. I added the tug bar.

Beautiful wood grain under the transparent white finish
Flamed maple visible in the back of the neck.

Comes with a hardshell case. Case handle needs repair

I had a Honey Blonde Classic '50s P that was my go-to for years. Like you, the only reason I eventually sold mine was because I got a great deal on a nice 1.625" nut width P. But these Classic '50s are KILLER basses, and that White Laquer was my favorite of the bunch!

I have one too. My philosophy: it's a MIM, not a museum piece. After about 2 1/2 years of it being my everyday bass, I gave up on that neck too. Swapped it out for a Warmoth. Sold the original on Reverb for $225, even with some wear on it.

Even unplugged with flats, it SINGS. I haven't even toyed with the notion of buying another bass in 3 years.

Buy it!

My main P-Bass is an earlier release of the 50’s Classic with the lacquer finish, but in black. That has a J bass neck on it and flatwounds, and it’s just about perfect for me. With this instrument I wanted do things differently - maple fingerboard, roundwounds, etc. This just wasn’t the right fit. And if I didn’t have the other P Bass I would consider doing exactly what you mentioned.

That's one thing I liked about it as well. I didn't have to worry about babying it (although I DO take good care of all my basses). But bar gigs? Outdoor gigs in 100 degree weather? Who cares?!!! These things are virtually indestructible. And they sound awesome to boot!

Very tempting. Is the neck profile much beefier than a standard p bass? Still learning about the differences.

thanks

It's a Fender C shape neck with the 1.75" wide nut, and the fingerboard radius is 7.25". This was a case of it just not being the right fit for me.

If you love it other than the neck shape, you might consider putting an Allparts JEF neck on it. It's a fretted Jazz Bass neck with ebony fretboard.

I put one on my Mexican Player Precision Bass, and it's wonderful.
