This bass is a true unicorn, weighing in at 8.9lbs and lived in the case for most of its life! It also has a Chechen fingerboard, flamed maple top, and a truss rod. The finish is an amazing honeyburst. The chechen board tames the high end zing on the composite neck.
When I received it, the bass had gold hardware. I switched out all the hardware to black, with the lightest weight components I could find. The tuners are lightweight Gotohs (without Modulus branding), the bridge and knobs are aluminum Hipshot. I also switched the pickups and electronics to the EMG 40DC set with the three band preamp.
I documented the weight savings in the chart below:
Modulus Hardware Chart
Overall the bass is in very good condition. It’s easily a 9.5. There are no scratches, dings or dents anywhere. There is very minimal player wear. The frets are all in very good condition. The truss rod works in both directions.
I have gigged this bass about once a month for the last few years, but that’s the heaviest action it’s seen. That band is now all done and I need to move on. It's an amazing instrument and the best Modulus I've owned out of about 7 or 8.
Issues:
When replacing the pickups, the holes did not match exactly, resulting in limited adjustability of the pickups’ height. The new owner may want to fill two of the holes and drill new ones, but you may be OK with it the way it is now.
Pickups have been re-seated and the old holes were filled. The pickups are now fully adjustable.
I put glow in the dark paint on the side markers. It’s not bad looking at all, but not perfect either.
The EMG logo is starting to wear on the neck pickup.
It comes with the original hard case and the owner manual/pamphlet.
Shipping:
is on the buyer and I will provide the box and all packing materials, which I have on hand.
Trades:
Ultimately I want an MTD 535 and I may just hold out for a sale or trade for a 535. However, I will also consider trades for Lull, Gould, Sadowsky, Lakland, Sire basses. Maybe others but 5 strings primarily. Trades plus cash are OK too. I would consider 4 string trades plus substantial $$ to me. May be interested in a Bergantino or Epifani cab. Would really like a 2x112 rig.
