Update: Price Drop to $1100!

This is a 2017 model year 55-AJ that I bought used on Reverb last year from a store in Iowa. I've only played it casually in my smoke free home. I'm reluctantly moving this on because I still prefer my 55-02 and as a non-gigging hobbyist this isn't getting much playing time.

It's completely stock/original in excellent condition, with very minor signs of wear. I gave it a good cleaning, conditioning, polishing, and setup when I received it. There are a few light scratches on back that don't show in photos. Some minor wear on the edge of the truss access. Everything works as it should, with plenty of easy travel either direction in the truss rod. I will include the hex key that fits the access slot. It'll ship with the no-name hard shell case it came in for protection.

Basic specs:
  • Ash body with flame maple veneer top
  • Charcoal transparent finish (lots of pics to show it in different lighting)
  • Rosewood fretboard, 10"-13" compound radius
  • Flatsawn maple neck with graphite reinforcement bars
  • US Lakland vintage single coil pickups
  • Bartolini MK-1 3-band preamp
  • Weighs 9.2 lbs
Laklands are all about the neck and this one is true to form. In addition to the compound radius fretboard, the Lakland 5-string neck flattens out nicely toward the body and makes for a very comfy hand feel all the way up the 22nd fret. The smaller frets are also part of the magic.

Sets up with very low action (currently 4mm on treble side with some room left in the saddle) and a flat board with perfectly functioning truss rod.

In full transparency, when I received this bass the string retainer had stripped out on the bass side. It had very heavy gauge string installed. I filled the hole, re-seated the screw, and set it at the right break angle with D'Addario XL170-5SL strings. I've had no issues since making the repair. However you can see in the pics that the retainer bar isn't perfectly parallel to the nut. This was how it was originally installed by the factory. While cosmetically it's noticeable, the repair is solid and setup for the right break angle. I share this because if something like this bugs you, then best to move on. I'm sure a luthier could fill the original holes and move the bar further back to make it parallel to the nut if that's important to you.

That said this is an easy playing 35" scale that has tone for days. This bass sounds fantastic. It sings acoustically with some natural growl. The MK-1 preamp does have some natural scoop and brightness, but there's plenty of sculpting to achieve darker or traditional tones. It's a great sounding active jazz and if you know Lakland 5 strings then this will not disappoint!

Asking $1300 $1150 $1100 plus actual shipping - of course everything is always negotiable

I'm also willing to meet up in the central NJ / Bucks County PA area to save money on shipping.
