I have owned this one since 2008. The 4002 is the rarest model of Rickenbacker produced, less than 100 are said to have been made.*
This 1978 is one of the earlier of the production run and a stock original example of this rare beast.
Details of this model:
* "These basses are as rare as hen's teeth, since so few were produced."

This 1978 is one of the earlier of the production run and a stock original example of this rare beast.
Details of this model:
- Body made of Birdseye and Curly Maple.
- Deluxe block binding. Laminated custom pickguard.
- Laminated fully bound Maple neck and head.
- Imported Ebony fingerboard with pearl style inlays.
- 21 frets on a 33 1/2 inch scale.
- Two super high gain humbucking pickups.
- Individual tone and volume controls for each pickup. Separate Rick-O-Sound stereo and mono output jack.
- Special low impedance output jack for direct connection with recording studio control board.
- The body is in good+ condition for the age with some standard cosmetic wear for the age. I would easily rate it a conservative 7.5/10.
- All electronics are original and fully functional.
- All other parts are original as I understand it, the frets show some average wear as pictured, but no buzzing is present.
- Bass is currently strung-up with TI Jazz Flats and has remained largely unplayed in the last decade.
- Some minor tailpiece left as is common with these basses from being previously strung w high-tension round wounds.
- Case is original is solid functional condition, with some wear on the exterior (some knocks, two ‘feet’ missing).
