This is a beautifully made "mini" bass built by Mayones of Gdansk, Poland. Mayones only makes a small number of these basses using the exotic woods left over from their other instrument builds. Rather than toss these smaller pieces of wood, not large enough to be used to build another full-size instrument, they recycle them and build these little basses.
Each Cali is a one-of-a-kind and you’ll not see two that look exactly the same, since it’s up to the Luthier to build these out of the leftover woods of their choice.
I have been experiencing multiple problems with my hands over the past 15 years and have had several correcting surgeries. As a result, I've been experimenting with different scale basses to find that "new sweet spot scale" that allows me to play without discomfort. Unfortunately, I find this great little instrument is just a bit too small for me to play with the comfort I'm seeking.
The bass is in near new condition. There is one small imperfection on the rear upper bought that is very difficult to see. I was unable to photograph it so I will include a photo from the previous owner. It appears that the image is darkened and zoomed to capture the imperfection, but it is only noticeable to the naked eye with very close inspection and with manipulation in light. But, it is there....in the spirit of good disclosure....it's circled in the last image.

- Scale is 17.5".
- Bass is tuned an octave higher than standard.
- Neck-thru construction. Seven piece laminate of Maple, Sapelle, and Walnut.
- Fingerboard is Ebony.
- Body wings are a three piece laminate with a Maple accent layer below the top. Back is Sapelle. The middle tone layer is Wenge. The top is Spruce with a nicely dyed vintage look.
- The headstock overlay is Spruce, matching the top.
- Nut is Tusq and measures 1 5/8".
- Finish is oil/wax and natural. It cleans up nicely and is preserved well with Howard's Feed-N-Wax.
- Schaller tuners.
- Schaller strap locks.
- Mayones adjustable bridge.
- Aguilar DCB pickup.
- Aguilar OBP 3 preamp.
- Controls: Volume, Midrange, stacked Treble over Bass. Active/passive switch.
- Mayones labeled strings. Gauged 30, 45, 65, 85.
- Weight is 5 pounds.
- Mayones labeled padded bag. It is in near new condition.
