I just did my first gig Friday with my new (to me) PJ5. I have two other active Lulls, (which I love dearly,) but that PJ5 may have instantly become my go-to.
Something about that passive tone and response,… just seems to get that tone you hear in your head!

I agree, it's been my main work bass for 7 years. The 35'' scale with the P pickup is super versatile. Great rock bass too, which opens up more than a normal P bass.

The best scenario for me would be to swap bodies with a M5V. Anyone? ;)

Now throw a set of Thomastik Infeld Flats on it...holy crap. My passive PJ5 with those is my forever bass. I had Mike throw in some Nordys on mine before he passed. So dang good...

Why not change out the P neck pickup for J neck pickup. Just need a J pickup rout, new pickguard, and a J neck pickup.
Seems this would give what you are looking for - and this is a pretty easy, and mostly reversable mod (expect for the J pickup rout).
I prefer to sell it as is and keep the bass in it’s original state. The costs of a routing job, ordering a pick guard, waiting for another Nordstrand pickup will cost a lot. At that point I prefer to sell it ! ;)

Nope. It's well balanced and never had trouble playing 3+ sets gigs.

Would consider lower value JAZZ 5 to try something new!

I just started playing bass less than two years ago. This fall I got a nash p bass and Bluesman vintage jazz bass and I was thinking the only other bass I think I want now is a five string p/j. I wish I could buy this one it looks exactly like what I’m looking for.

A passive PJ5 is a good compromise to stay in the vintage « territory » IMO. ;)

Believe me, I’m trying to figure out if there’s a way I could swing it. I’m going to be watching this thread very closely.
