MTD 534-24 w/ Super 5 pickups and Preamp
This is one beautiful bass and comes with many of the amenities, and in the harder to come by 34” scale length.
Here are a few of the highlights-
34” scale length
Crotch walnut top (old stock from the Martin Guitar factory)
Super 5 Dual Coils
Roasted maple neck
50 year air dried Indian rosewood fingerboard. It has a special feel under your fingers
ALBridge (bass will come with the original)
Luminlay side dots
The bridge was changed to a ALBridge model with 18mm string spacing. The original Hipshot 19mm bridge is included. The new bridge was professionally installed by a tech suggested by Mike Tobias...pro job all the way.
The electronics in the bass are the Super 5 Dual Coils in the traditional placement of a 534. This gives you the ability to split the coils into single, parallel and series modes (controllable per pickup). There is also an active/passive switch (pull up) in the volume pot and active/passive tone control. Also featured is a push/pull mid control with 800/400 mid points.
This was one person opinion of the pickup/preamp package, and I couldn’t agree with him more-
It's almost impossible to overstate the versatility of the Super pickups and preamp, especially with the pickups in the traditional location. The ability to split each pickup's coils individually results in a huge number of tonal options, even when running passive. I have this same pickup/pre config on my own MTD, and it's one of the few active basses I've ever owned that sounds just as good when run passive. Truly a great setup
The bass has a very light weight swamp ash body and a roasted maple neck that produce a very warm and growly tone. And to top is off old stock from the Martin Guitars factory, Indian Rosewood fingerboard. If you have never played on a fingerboard like this you are in for a real treat, there is a softness to the playability, and you need to play it to understand.
