I have a 1980's Fender Jazz Bass Special made between 1985-1987 and made in Japan. Unlined fretless passive electronics, all original. Does have shielding paint in the electronics and pickup cavities. Comes with a hardshell case. Does have player wear on body and a few spots on back of neck, but fingerboard is good.

Your definition of rough and my definition of rough have a big gap between them. The bass is in fine working condition. And yes it has roundwound strings. That does not mean the fingerboard has grooves that make the bass unplayable. Some round wound strings are not as rough on wood as others all depends on what it made from.
