Claude Marchand french bow (from Tom and George Martin's shop); 144 grams, 27 inches long total/21 inches playable hair length (68 cm/53.5cm); very nice bow for vey little money (especially when considering the exchange rate).
Hi Dylan! Sorry it's taken so long to reply, I did see you PM but have been on the road; did you study in Atlanta, and if so with whom (looking for a reference so I feel good about shipping it-my insurance doesn't cover that kind of thing). The bow hasn't been played for some time as I play a very heavy DeLuccia and I picked up a Chet Olsen on TB from a Houston Symphony player that comes close to it-he bought all of DeLuccia's wood from his son after his death. Although the Marchand weighs in at 144 or something (it's in the ad) it feels and plays like a lighter bow-very good on Mozart, Beethoven, etc-but it's just too different than what I'm used to for Mahler/Bruckner. I have a student who played it and wanted to buy it but I don't sell stuff to students for ethical reasons. So it needs to be broken in again, I'll try to play on it for a couple days before I would send it. It's very beautiful, slightly heavier than usual, but still too light for me. Get back to me with a teachers name if you could! Best, John
