Squier VM 5 String Bass with Mods
Here's a very cool 5 string that I acquired. I've got too many basses!
These Squier 5 string Ps are excellent basses, and I believe they've been discontinued. From 2015. The necks are one of the best 5 string necks you'll find. Gloss finished maple like a 70's model. The body is Candy Apple Red. Now for the mods: It has a Ulyate 5 string pickup, and a MM pickup was added (not sure of the brand). It weights 8.6 lbs and comes with an SKB hard case. This bass once had an active preamp that was taken out before I bought it. There is a battery cavity routed on the back. The custom white pick guard has some extra holes where knobs for the preamp were, but they've been covered over with white labels. (looks a little gnarly, but could be improved upon. You could use the white one as a template and have another made) If you added a preamp, you could remove them. But it sounds great passive. The Ulyate has a beautiful sound, and the MM kicks @ss. The MM is hotter, so when you use both, you have to dial in the MM so it doesn't overpower the P, but it adds great mids to the sound, and when you favor the MM or solo it, it gets the classic MM sound. It's in very good shape, everything works as it should, and it and is a wonderful bass! These are somewhat hard to find, and go for as much as I'm charging without the mods. The case in the pic was sold, but I'll include a decent gig bag. $395 shipped in the CONUS (add $25 west of the Rockies)
