Up for sale is this beautiful bass I had commissioned to be a short scale (30”) 4001C64 with a Hofner-like neck. It started it’s life as a genuine Rickenbacker set neck 4000 body from the 70’s and then had a custom reverse headstock maple neck with a bubinga fretboard put onto it (with just a normal single truss rod). The neck also has a zero-fret and Hofner nut which look really cool and assures nice low action. The ultimate Paul McCartney bass.
Most of the parts are genuine Rickenbacker, so its effectively a Rick with a conversion neck on it. The tailpiece is from the 70s (and has been modded to remove the “teeth”). The tuners and hardware are all Rick parts. Horseshoe pickup surround with a Hofner pickup in it at the bridge.
Finished in an incredible nitrocellulose fireglo. Its got a few marks on it from gigging use and there’s some typical finish chipping at the tailpiece which is common on rickenbackers but other than that its in excellent condition.
It is equipped with NOS Rickenbacker Maxima Flatwounds from the 70s. Same kind McCartney used.
The bass sounds somewhere in-between a Rickenbacker 4001 and a Hofner 500/1.
Hate to see it go but I just play my Fender P nowadays and bills must be paid. This is a really cool bass and if you have similar tastes to me I know you’ll love it too!
