For sale Early pre-CBS 1964 Fender Jazz Bass with Uniqiue History

Selling my early pre-CBS 1964 Fender Jazz Bass. Yes this bass is turning 60 in a matter of days. This is a rare bird as the original owner ordered it but due to his band colors he had it custom upholstered soon after purchase in a vinyl (mid 1960s see photo). The wrapper did a great job making it fit seamlessly without using glue (from what I can tell). Just some small tacks and staples in key places (neck joint, electronics pot route, and the visible ones around the around the back). These tacks are about about a 1/4 inch. This bass has never had the upholster ing removed since it was installed.

Now to the specs.

-7JAN64A Neck date
-Serial number on neck plate is L20913
-6403 pot dates (hasn't been played in more than 40 years but they are crystal clear with no cracking).
-Brazilian rosewood fingerboard with clay dots in museum condition.
-Frets in great condition and they have never been regretted or fret dressed.
-All original tuners and strap button.
-Original pickups but they were profesiionally rewound to oriigal specs by Jimmy Coppolo of Alleva Coppolo Basses.
-All original bridge with the exception of a replaced E string saddle adjustment screw (replaced with modern a fender custom shop part).
-Still have the orignal flatwounds that have to date back to the 1960s (very stiff)
-Unknown if paint under vinyl is orignal or refined. It is blue but not exactly lake placid blue but could be LPB but appears a bit lighter due to being under vynil for 50 plus years. Regardless I am sure the finish is well preserved under the vinyl wrap.
-I don't have the original case but comes with a black faux gator case that holds the original photo and old strings.
-1965-67 photo showing this bass with the original owner and his band.
-Beautiful neck and original late 1963 logo.
-Bass plays and sounds amazing just like a 1964 should just not much tread off the tire as this is a closet queen.


This Bass' History:

Bass was purchesed at an estate sale in St. Joseph, MO. This was a one owner bass who unfortunately was selling off his belongings due to his battle with advanced Alzheimers. The original owner name will be disclosed to the new owner but not in this for sale ad. He came from a very affluent family in St. Joseph and lived in a very well to do area of St. Joseph. Wealth came from both sides of the family and through further conversations I learned that his mother's family donated land that would become Missouri Western State University. The bass owner played in a band called "Al Herpert and the Marijuana Brass" and this bass is pictured in that mid 1960s photo that came with the bass during the estate sale.

This was a case queen because my guess is the vinyl warp limited the bass' playability due to loss of interest or bad breaking up. I had this bass professionally set up and action is now nice and low and very playable. I have debated taking off the wrap but the photo and uniqueness makes me want to keep it intact.

This is a super rare bird and impossible find in this condition. Will be 60 years old but looks 6 years old.
