Selling my beloved 1962 Fender Precision bass. It’s a great bass, which I recently acquired but then found my absolute dream bass, so can’t afford to keep both. This one will definitely be missed. It is 100% original.
Here are the details:
Neck -
It has the original reverse tuners and strap button on the back of the headstock. The nut and frets are original. The frets were leveled and crowned at some point because they hardly show any wear.
Neck stamp is 5 Sep 62 C. The neck is perfectly straight. The back of the neck is nice and smooth where some of the lacquer has worn off over the years and feels really nice up and down.
Body -
Shows plenty of wear and lacquer checking from being played over the years. Original nitrate tortoise guard and aluminum backing plate. Tort guard is cracked in a few places and is quite brittle.
All pickguard screws are old, assuming they are original. Thumbrest is original as well as thumbrest screws.
Original black bottom pickups and wiring harness. Pickups have the original foam risers underneath which are kind of dried up at this point but still allows for pickup height adjustment.
Brass plate under pickup is original. Unmolested solder joints on original pots and circle d cap, all original.
Strap buttons and screws are all original. Original volume and tone knobs. Bridge is original, as are all saddles, screws & springs.
Comes with original pickup and bridge covers (and screws).
Original tan case w/ orange lining. Case is a little beat up but in pretty good condition for one of this era. I have seen a lot worse. Has an old strap and some old paper work included as well.
Currently set up w/ and old set of Labella flats and plays and sounds great. Really nails the Motown vibe.
This is very resonant, super lightweight bass (8.2lbs w/ covers off). Only issue whatsoever is the 2 hairline cracks on the bottom part of the body, down by the bridge. See photos. Each crack is several inches long. I was debating on whether to see about having these fixed, but decided to keep it as original as possible for now. It’s something that the new owner might want to address at some point. They seem stable for now.
Will ship or local pickup in Baltimore, MD ok as well.
