This bass, and it's fraternal twin, came home with me a little over a year ago when I went to purchase a guitar amp from a chap. He had been in the music industry for decades and played bass along with guitar, and asked if I'd seen a 7 string before. I mentioned that I played one regularly, so he replied "wait here a moment" and went to retrieve two hard cases. In one was this mint BTB747, and in the other, an equally mint BTB7.
He offered to sell them, and needless to say, they both went home with me. I had intentions of converting them both to use thicker strings like my Conklins (for low F# to high C tuning) but with everything going on last year, I couldn't get to them. Between numerous vehicle issues, my daughter getting married, losing my best friend, etc. it just didn't happen. I also acquired a couple more basses in the process.
As much as I reply with "just one more" when asked if I need another bass, I don't see myself using these any time soon and need to funnel my investment elsewhere. That said, I'm offering up both of them to find a new owner who is worthy to wield them. They both come in very nice OHSC's and will be packed and shipped with love and care.
Tone & Condition
Of the two, this BTB747 is darker sounding with all the controls set flat - credit the Bart pickups. It's condition is virtually new, or as close to NOS as one can get. I can't find any dings on it, and there is no appreciable fret wear - I can see where the strings may have made contact with the frets in the money-note area, but that's it - they are pristine. The tuners have some slight discoloration due to age; I might try wiping them down with some mild detergent as it could just be fingerprints.
Normally I fully disassemble a bass and perform a complete setup when a new one comes into the stable but I never did that with either of them - they're so clean! I can't think of anything else right now; again, cash is king at this time, please let me know if you have any questions!
