Details

This bass is the only 32” scale 6 string whale tail made by Carl. The top is holly also a first. The bass has been played 4 times.
It will ship with 2 custom pickups.
Pickup 1 is the traditional KA soap bar that Carl has used for years
Pickup 2 is a custom EMG that Les Claypool was using in the 90s. That one is installed at the moment.
Scale 32”
Weight on my scale 8.9lbs
It is perfectly balanced as you would expect from Carl.
There isn’t much to say. If you are looking at this bass you know Carl’s work and his teams work. You know every bass sits until Carl says it meets his standards. He will never rush anything, take shortcuts or put his name on the line for anything much less money. The bass plays better than any 6 I’ve had (if you know me I’ve had many).
I do not want to sell this bass obviously

There will most likely never be another made to these specs.

I guess the reality that I am needing to sell the bass has hit. This price is what I honestly think is fair but I still don’t wanna 😂😂

Wow! I heard Carl’s 36” long scales balance perfectly. So how does a 32” of his balance?

this is above my budget but throwing in my 2 cents: adding the specs would be helpful to anyone serious about buying an instrument of this caliber and price.

Good luck with the sale

Any investment bankers or oil tycoons in the house for this one?
I sure hope there isn’t!! I’ve posted this price based on the ridiculous prices of the bass guitars on this site. If someone had a genuine offer I would entertain it. I am not rushed to sell just yet. This is my favorite CT bass.

:woot:

Beautiful !!!

Trade for a gently used kidney ?

(full disclosure: said kidney has a cancerous mass attached to it, but should still give you at least months of semi-decent service ! :D )

In all seriousness, this is just a stunning bass ! GLWTS

Well, common sense would dictate that if they can make a long 36 inch scale balance perfectly then a short scale like 32 would be even more so. Plus he added a lot of specs in his post. You might want to ask him which ones you feel are missing.

Don’t be that guy. I wrote my comment long before he added specs. As for balance, it’s not a give-in that shorter scale means better balance. I’ve played several short and medium scales that didn’t balance incredibly well. I have no doubt a luthier as skilled as Carl would build a well balanced medium scale. That said, it’s a fair question. Your claim it’s common sense suggests I don’t have any, and that’s not fair.

Carl Thompson is known for many things. One of the things he takes pride in is how well balanced all of his instruments are and his insane quality control. My reason for not including that is most people who know Carl Thompson bass guitars know this is a big thing with him. Also the bass is unique in that it has 29 frets. I don’t know what specs I left out though other than adding the balanced line. I thought it was a cool question cause it’s not something most people ask. If you have any more I’ll gladly add them. I’ve been on the road most of the week so please forgive my slow response time.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune, brother. If anyone is considering sending an offer I can confirm Rich is a stand up guy and you will have an outstanding transaction! If this were up about 9-12 months from now I would send you a genuine offer. Hope you get everything figured out and you’re able to hold on to this one!
