I believe these are onboard buffers similar to how Jerry Garcia's guitars were wired -- they allow for long runs of cable from the instrument to pedal boards, etc.

Another TB'er can chime in with more detailed or better worded info.

FWIW...

I believe that this is an older predecessor to the DB-918.2 Buffer. 9 or 18v operation. This would likely be an 18v only operation and default to two battery operation.

For reference only:

Bartolini DB-18.1 has an extra WHITE wire that I suspect is another ground wire to perhaps go to a secondary ground location or twist with the BLACK wire.
