Hofner 500/1 violin bass was designed by Walter Hofner and launched at the Frankfurt Music Messe in 1956. It has since gone on to become one of the most recognizable electric bass guitars in the music world in terms of both looks and sound. German made in 2011 (125th Anniversary, 1887 - 2012 Edition), Hofner H500/1-64-O 1964 Reissue Beatle Bass. 100% all original in Excellent condition with its original bullet hard case. This is an exact replica of the 1964 Beatle bass, as made famous by Sir Paul McCartney all those years ago.
If you're a session/studio musician or producer, this is the best Hofner you can get at this price, far better than most vintage '70s and '80s ones. Weighting in at 4.9 Lbs. unplugged you can feel it resonates considerably well as usual, due to the fact that it's completely hollow body. V62-V63 or V64 Typical reissue ($3600 street price brand new nowadays). The V64, with very minimal differences is exactly the same than V62 and V63 but it has the bound fretboard. These V64 are the closest to the original ones, with all the features you can expect, the typical and classic control panel, two staple pickups, two piece neck made of Flame Maple, two on strip tuners and bound ebony fretboard.. The body is made of Flame Maple on the sides and back and a Spruce Top.
The Hofner Vintage '64 features a slimmer neck profile than previous year models. This makes chording and moving around the neck smoother and more comfortable. The slim profile increases playability while still retaining the distinctive Hofner feel that so many iconic players enjoyed. The neck is perfectly straight and has the truss rod fully functional. It's strung with a new set of La Bella (.039" - .096") and it really plays beautiful with low action and good intonation. As typical from the years of playing, there is some checking on the top spruce and some patina over the pickups and hardware, which to me looks awesome. The rest of the bass is in flawless with no fret wear that I can photograph and no other dings nor blemishes to mention.
