The bass is as new except for some very light lines on the fingerboard that are consistent with light play with roundwound strings and one slight indentation that’s literally the size of a pinpoint.
I bought it about a year and a half ago and played it on a handful of jazz gigs and it sounds absolutely amazing! To me, the perfect Fretless sound. I’m selling it because my Custom 6 Fodera Fretless is almost done now so I won’t be needing this one, but I do need some money to pay for the 6. If I needed a 4 Fretless this would never be leaving.Light, well balanced and so comfortable to play. It’s as fast and easy to play as any bass I’ve ever owned! Easy to set up for low perfect action for maximum growl.
Monarch 4 Standard Fretless
Retail $5650
The Monarch Standard Fretless blends the aesthetics, tone, playability and pro-player reliability bass players have come to expect from Fodera. Based on our acclaimed Monarch Standard, our Monarch Standard Fretless bass guitar features a unique tone-wood combination that delivers an incredibly rich, organic, and nuanced tone. The walnut body provides a warm yet punchy sound that supports low frequencies very well and has a slightly compressed midrange. We then matched it with a hand carved, red oak neck and a lined ebony fingerboard that results is a focused and smooth, yet beautifully articulate fretless tone. Red oak, being a strong but fairly porous wood, has many tiny air pockets that act as “resonating chambers,” enhancing the “growl” of the instrument.
The Monarch Standard Fretless features a set of our Fodera/Duncan Dual Coil pickups and the Fodera/Pope Standard 3-Band Preamp. Designed in collaboration with Seymour Duncan, our passive Dual Coil pickups were designed to provide a punchy and focused tone with a natural and smooth upper midrange. Compared to an active soapbar style pickup, the tone is warmer and more organic. Wired in parallel, these pickups offer a noise-free single coil sound with added body and weight yet come with the added flexibility of full single-coil operation providing the snap, warmth, and mid-range punch of classic single-coil Jazz Bass pickups. Designed for optimal performance, our 3-Band Fodera/Pope Preamp offers an incredibly low noise floor, a musical sounding EQ, and active/passive operation for maximum reliability and flexibility whether you’re on stage or in the studio. Together, these electronics let you tailor your tone, from deep and round to bright and punchy and everything in between.
Every Monarch Standard bass guitar is hand-crafted right here in our Brooklyn, NY shop alongside our custom instruments by the very same people, using the same tools and materials as our Custom basses.
