Hello,

Here I have a stunning example of a seemingly rare 1965 Gibson Thunderbird II. This bass is amazing. Like, holy crap it’s amazing. It’s just… well while I enjoy this Bird, I’m a Fender guy through and through, and this probably won’t be my #1 (I just love Jazz Basses too much). This bass deserves to go to a home where it will be somebody’s number 1. I’ll probably get one of the Epi 64 reissues and call it good there.

To my knowledge, everything on the bass is original. That being said, the truss rod cover is missing.

Has had a typical headstock repair, I am a Gibson certified tech, and while I didn’t do this repair, I have been doing Gibson headstock repairs for a long time and this looks and feels solid. This break is basically in front of the truss rod nut, and in front of the string nut so the truss isn’t going to pull the headstock apart any time soon.

Truss rod turns amazingly. Like, actually so responsive and friction free. Unlike a lot of old Fenders I’ve worked on.

The pots and wiring seem to be all original, with one pot dating to 64 and the other being illegible. Even has the original black plastic jack.

Could use a fret leveling/refret. It’s playable, but there is some buzzing. I did check the neck on treble and bass sides with both a flat edge and a notched edge, neck is not twisted or warped.

Not super heavy either.

Comes with original HSC, felt mute pads (I have all 4), and the pickup cover. I do not have the bridge cover. Body seems to have been drilled for both the pickup and bridge covers at the bridge. Two strap button holes were drilled farther up on the body to help with balance. I have relocated the strap back to its original position, the added strap holes are in the black paint on the same surface as the original, so it doesn’t look ugly or stick out.

Yes, the e string on the stop bar is a little fat… it sits fine where it’s at.

EDIT: ok, after some thorough research, I was WAY overcharging. New pricing.

Sound demo through my JHS punchline, not exactly a totally clean/no eq demo, but it shows what the bass can do.
