I've decided to put my 1982 Vintage Series (AVRI) bass up for sale. This is the '57 reissue model and is the last to be made at the original Fender factory in Fullerton, CA.
The 1982 thru 1985 Reissue instruments are not only considered some of the very best that Fender has made, they've become extremely collectible. Finding one in excellent condition is rare.
The reason I am selling/trading is because the bass has been hanging on my wall since the day I bought it (from Norm's Rare Guitars in Tarzana, CA) and deserves to be played. Also, I am hoping to find a late 60's/early 70's Precision and will use the funds towards that purchase. Or I'd be interested in trading if you have a late 60's/early 70's Precision in original condition.
The latest Blue Book of Instruments lists the '57 Vintage Series reissue bass as having a sale value of $2000 for poor condition up to $3600 in Showroom condition. As you can see in the photos I've attached, my bass is in extremely good condition. There is a light spot on the finish in the front that has been there since I bought it, but seems to be fine. Also, I noticed a small chip just below the neck plate. This happened when the guys at Norm's removed the neck to share the date. Thankfully, the chip can be mended easily and very cheaply since the finish is nitrocellulose (not polyurethane). Otherwise, there is no buckle rash or dings. The frets are original and are, of course, in great condition, as well. Included is the original tweed case (which is unique to the '82 thru '85 models and is impossible to find on its own). I also have the original instruction manual from Fender.
Interestingly, the neck was carved/shaped by the legendary, Herb Gastelum. If you don't know who Herb is, he's considered the best of the best of the best when it comes to making necks. If memory serves, Herb spent 50-something years at Fender. The necks he built are very very sought after.
The photos I've attached are those from Norm's Rare Guitars. In fact, you might notice his ratty brown couch that is seen in many of his videos.
