I'm putting my '66 Jazz Bass up for sale. This is one of the desirable transitional examples with the bound rosewood neck, dot inlays, and lollipop tuners. These were only produced for a short period from late 1965 into early 1966, making them much harder to find than the later bound/block necks. You may have seen this one pop up over the last 6 months as it came from Ray Riendeau at Vintage Bass Vault. Been on a bit of a buying spree lately and it's time to sell a few - can see that I have a few active listings at the moment.

The body has been professionally refinished in a period-correct 3-tone sunburst that really suits the bass. There is one noticeable wear spot on the lower back/bottom that's pictured, but otherwise it presents very well.

The neck is original finish and feels fantastic. The original pickups and electronics sound great as well. The body is also surprisingly light and very resonant at 7.8 lbs!

To be completely transparent, the neck had developed a slight ski jump over the years. I had respected luthier Roger Morillo level the frets and cut a new nut, and it now plays beautifully with low/medium action all the way up the neck. It was important to me that this work be done correctly, and Roger did an outstanding job. Will provide the paid invoice from Roger as well for the work performed.

The bass includes the original tortoise pickguard, original bridge and pickup covers, and the original black tolex Fender hardshell case with orange interior.

This is a wonderful player that still has all the character you'd expect from a great vintage Fender. If you're looking for a rare transitional '66 that's ready to be played instead of needing work, I think you'll be really pleased with this one.

Buyer to pay actual shipping costs and I do use PirateShip to keep costs down. Open to reasonable offers. Willing to discount for a meetup that's within a 250 mile distance of me.

Happy to answer any questions or provide additional photos for serious buyers.

Thanks!

Exquisite instrument, I owned a 66 Jazz in College the necks were amazing, super thin profile. Only year they had paddle tuners.

Used this on some studio recordings recently - happy to provide those examples if you'd like to hear it in action.
