After years of dreaming of owning my own 535 I decided to take my best shot at putting together the next best thing. I purchased a used KZ5, one of the early Korean made models, and completely disassembled it. I sanded off the original gloss and refinished it using a dark walnut stain covered by several coats of satin polyurethane. It is not a perfect finish but as you can see from the photos it did turn out pretty nice. The pickup and electronic cavities are shielded with Super Shield nickle conductive coating. I installed Bartolini CBC pickups and a Bartolini NTMB preamp. The pickups are wired in series and have a deep dark tone that is accented very well by the LaBella Black Nylon Tapewounds (which I have never been inclined to change). The controls are volume(P/P), blend, low, mid, high, and mid frequency select switch. The bridge is a brass Hipshot A style and the tuners are Hipshot Licensed Ultralights. It weighs in at 8.6 lbs on my bathroom scale. It is in excellent condition and has only been played in my home and at church. I never thought I would find myself selling this bass but I have recently converted to playing a BEAD 4 string and I need to sell this to fund my next BEAD project.
