Up for sale is an extremely rare Ibanez Axstar AXB-1000 bass, made in Japan for only 1986-1987. This was the flagship Axstar bass and one of Ibanez's most unusual and collectible designs: a full-scale, neck-through, headless bass built around officially licensed Steinberger hardware.
This example is finished in Pearl/metallic white, which has aged to a great parchment/yellowed vintage color. The bass features a maple neck-through design, 24-fret ebony fingerboard, black hardware, Steinberger bridge/tuning system and string retainer, and a compact sculpted body that balances far better than many headless basses. It has a standard 34" scale but feels compact and easy to play because of the headless design and excellent balance.
The pickup/control setup is also a major part of the appeal. It uses Ibanez Lo-B/Lo-Z active pickups with a control layout including volume, tone and active EQ/balance controls. Tonally, it sits in the same world as an active EMG-equipped Steinberger: tight, clear, punchy, hi-fi and very responsive.
