S Martyn Blaze 28” 6-string Bass. Comfy, Lightning-Fast Player. Tonal Beast!

This bass may be small, but it packs a mighty punch. If you’ve been playing short/medium scale basses (30”-32”) and you’ve never tried one of Samuel Martyn’s 28” basses, you owe it to yourself to check one out. IMO, they play faster and sound every bit as good as my longer scale basses (and I have owned all the major brands… Fodera, Alembic, MTD, Ritter, Jerzy Drozd, etc.). You’ll experience clean, crisp mids/highs, as well as thick, punchy bass tones.

After a lengthy conversation with my bass instructor, we determined that I should stick exclusively to 5-string basses. Wrapping my old brain around an additional 6th string was a bit much for me. Also, playing chords (which is one of the main reasons I wanted the additional high F string) is becoming increasingly difficult with my carpal tunnel issues. It’s currently strung E to F, but can readily accommodate a B to C setup with a fat, punchy, low-B tone.

If you want to see how incredible this bass sounds and plays, check out S Martyn’s premiere artist, Robson Albuquerque, on Instagram. This bass was built to his specifications.

What strings will your beautiful bass accommodate?
The way this headless bass with the Nova bridge is designed, I imagine you can use pretty much any brand or gauge of string. You put the ball end into the individual bridge saddles and then thread the string through a hole under the clamps on the headstock. Then you clamp the string down and clip off the remainder of the string. It's very easy to swap out strings, and I've never had any problems with the string coming loose.

I've tried many different string manufacturers with this bass and landed on S.I.T. Foundations strings as my go to.

Incredible! For 28” reference, treat the 3rd fret as a zero fret and 4th fret as the 1st fret on a conventional 34” scale bass. It really opens up the OFPF fretboard navigation without the associated duress or fatigue.

understand if the answer is no, but any interest in trades for other short scales? partial or otherwise.

looks gorgeous, would love to hear it.
Hey Jack. Great to hear from you again, my friend.

My recording equipment is sub-par... but this bass was build to be identical to the 5-string owned currently owned and played by Robson Albuquerque. Other than having an additional string, this bass sounds exactly like the one he plays. In fact, Robson himself played this bass at the factory before it shipped to me and confirmed that is was identical in tone.

So... check out his videos below and you'll have a great idea of what it sounds like...
